CSVEdit App Reviews

19 Customer Reviews:

A nice lightweight application if you just need to work with CSV data. Its kind of like using a text editor, but you have a couple usefule features, such as filtering and sorting. The one thing this misses though is line numbers. I often find it handy to compare # of rows and so forth. The performance is quite good, even with csv files with upwards of 100,000 rows. It handles it much better than Numbers.app (which caps out at 65,000).

There’s a button for it but there’s no way to select a column to delete it. Total fail. The only reason i give it more than 1 star is because it seems ok otherwise. But sadly that is the whole reason i bought it.

Ive been looking for a good simple csv editor for a while. CSVEdit does the job (and at a good price), but its missing some key features: * Needs an option to show grid lines. * Need to be able to copy entire rows and paste them into empty rows. * Need to be able to copy a block of row/cols and paste them into another block of row/col. * Double clicking on the header seperator should take the header text into account and not shrink it less then that width. * Dont always ask about the format when opening a file. Fix these things and this would be a nice simple A+ editor

I bought this app to encourage the programmer to continue his efforts with this nice little editor. There is a good chance that It could become a very useful tool for many people! The price is right and I bet many would consider buying it if it will be develloped further. Ability to copy and paste entire rows and blocks of rows/columns should be the first on the list. Also the option to show grid lines. I really hope this represents a work in progress. Take it to the next leven and you could be very succesfull with it.

Works, but too simple

This needs some simple improvements like numerical sorting, single click to edit a cell…going back to editing my csv in a text editor or Numbers

This time Ive had enough. this rant is probably more against Apple than this dev, but Im tired of buying apps that do not work. I have a CSV file that I want to read. Reading it as text is quite difficult so I decided Ill find a good CSV app. Open App Store, couldnt find a lot. Found this one, paid $2, just to find out tht it ibviously wont open my file. Im not sure (and Idont care to be honest) its the fault of the app that was badly designed and puts too many asumption on the CSV files or if its my fault which is at fault, but I just wasted $2. Ibelieve this is my last "blind" purchase on the store as long as there is no "trial" mechanism.

I was looking for an App that could read large file size .csv. It does that very well. It unfortunately does not allow you to grab an entire column. You can grab a line or highlight a column and sort it, but thats about all I could figure out so far. But again, for being able to open large files that Numbers could not open, it works great!

Just an Editor

I was hoping to convert TAB to comma as well. Nope.

Poor quality app

I hoped this would work, but it does not. Not sure how I get a refund...

This simple $2 app managed to open and help clean up CSV files and data most other apps (including Excel / Numbers / FM Pro / etc…) couldn’t! wish list (improvements + new features) : - save sorted data… sorted! - multi-thread! (octo-core power wasted…) - disk-based processing? or better memory management? (5GB file with 329 columns = choke) Keep up the good work!

This is a nice and lightweight app to quickly few, edit, and save CSV files. For more extensive editing (adding/deleting rows or columns) it is a little bit fiddly though. But for $2 its more than a fair deal that I would recommend.

I have no idea how to use this app. All i want to do is delete some columns, theres even a button on the main toolbar (which i had to enable by digging around in the menu bar in the first place) but when i click delete column nothing happens. The icon is nice, but the app itself is sketchy and totally amateur looking. Also its basically impossible to use from a users standpoint.

It may be a poor editor, but when excel crashes with the meaningless error msg of “out of memory” whilst editing or opening large CSV files this 2.00 app is a great solution.

Although there are some missing bits of functionality, this editor is exactly what I was looking for. It’s lightweight, responsive, aesthetically pleasing, simple, and effective. What has been done, has been done very well. Does an excellent job of importing CSV, identfiying headers, drawing tables, and supporting row and colum operations. UPDATE: there seems to be a problem displaying over a certain number of columns. It creates a final column with name “..” which, when clicked, expands out to expose remaining columns, but the expanded column set cannot be scrolled through. Like the scroll bar boundaries aren’t changed to reflect the unhidden columns.

I bought it because it did well in simple trials, but when it came to handling large files it gives out. Also crashes a lot on me. Opening directly from Finder usually causes crashes versus using the File Open dialog. Very disappointing.

There’s no option for exporting to PDF. A workaround would be to install a “Print to PDF” option, then print the CSV doc and send it to the PDF generator. Also, the add column/ add row feature works nothing like 98% of the spreadsheet programs out there. When you add a column, it deletes the column next to it. Everything is extremely difficult to navigate for what is essentially just a spreadsheet. I’m dissappointed, but fortunately it only cost 2 dollars.
